Zata Toscano was born and raised in New York City, where he learned how to take his first steps on the mats. He first competed in 2005 and began actively competing through the colored belt divisions (blue, purple, and brown) in 2008, medaling at notable tournaments such as the New York Open, World Pro Trials, IBJJF Worlds and Pans, and more. Dedicated to implementing a modern approach to the grappling game, Zata has taught at schools across North America, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and France, in addition to his home base of Studio X, where he runs the Kids program and Adult NoGi program. He has been sponsored by and affiliated with the Albino & Preto brand since 2016.
